Reef fishing out of Port Douglas has been red hot of late, with good sized Spanish mackerel moving through. The bottom fishing has been proving successful with large mouth Nannygai and Coral Trout topping the catch list, mainly being caught in the open paddocks inshore of the outer reefs. Juvenile black marlin and sailfish have moved into region – we’ve had a pack of sailfish up on the wogheads and successfully released a couple in July whilst targeting mackerel!
July has been a busy month thus far, with numerous day trips between Zulu and Levante as well as a couple of extended mother-shipping trips with Beluga up on the Ribbon Reefs and potentially out t0 Bougainville Reef in the Coral Sea if whether permits in the coming week. Minke Whales have been popping up everywhere over the past week so hopefully they stick around for our upcoming dive charter which will be a welcome treat for our guests.
September and October will be mammoth months as we head into out heavy tackle giant black marlin season in Far North Queensland. Our fleet (Zulu. Levante and the new 40ft Express) is fishing and mother-shipping with Beluga on the Ribbon Reefs in September chasing both blue and black marlin, whilst October is the normal back to back charters out of Cooktown for giant black marlin. The water clarity has been spot on in recent charters up north so fingers crossed it carries through into the popular months.
We still have a couple of last minute dates available at the beginning on October and mid November for shorter live-aboard trips (2-4 days). Special rates for these last minute dates so contact us today.
