Ever wanted to go swimming with sharks?! Well that’s what happened yesterday on our half day private leisure charter over to the Low Isles out of Port Douglas. Ok, so we admit they are small black tip reef sharks (smaller than an adult) and used to people swimming in their environment regularly but still sounds impressive huh?! Low Isles is a visually stunning little island located 8NM from Port Douglas and consists of a small coral cay, a large mangrove island, mudflats, seagrass beds, and coral reefs which are all apart of the Great Barrier Reef system.

Leisure trips like this are entirely based on our guests desires. This charter entailed a freshly prepared lunch by our on board hostess/cook along with champagne and canapés. Snorkelling with the reef sharks, giant trevally and turtles in crystal clear water then relaxing on the day bed in the privacy of your own space is part of what Zulu Gamefishing Charters can offer. (See our Facebook page for video)

Back on the fishing front – Our last couple of fishing charters have resulted in bagging out on Small Mouth Nannygai  (38 fish in 4 hours!) as well as the odd Coral Trout and Red Emperor. We have found the favourable red reef table fish have headed north so we’ve been travelling as far north at Evening Reef in search of the best fishing grounds for our anglers.

A quick shoutout to our deckhand ‘Ross’ from Revolver Gamefishing Lures who is currently in hospital due to an unfortunate fight with a Halco lure attached to a Spanish mackerel resulting in a treble hook in the wrist. Get well soon mate!

Next on the agenda is the Cairns Bluewater Fitzroy light tackle tournament which gets underway next Thursday 20th out of Fitzroy Island. We have Steve and Lui from Dragon Lady fishing charters in Port Douglas joining us and fishing with Amanda (Zulu crew) for some fun on the water. We cant wait!

Good luck to all those fishing in the tournament and tight lines!
